MARCH TO DEFUND NYPD AND FUND PEOPLE NOT FEAR
5 PM
Washington Square Park
The mayor and the City Council are currently deciding how to allocate funds for the city’s budget. The mayor’s proposals cut funding for education and healthcare, but keep police funding intact.
The police budget is already equal to the defense budgets of entire countries! And he’s doing this in the middle of a pandemic that is disproportionately killing people of color. If you can, join the march to tell the mayor to invest in communities and people instead of violence.

FIGHT FOR FAIR COURTS VIRTUAL RALLY
8 PM
Mitch McConnell doesn’t want to do much for ordinary people, but he’s laser-focused on confirming judges (for life, regardless of whether they are even qualified). Indivisible is teaming up with Take Back the Court and Demand Justice to fight back and press for court reform. Guests include Senator Elizabeth Warren, Alicia Garza, and Dan Pfeiffer.
VOTING
Several people I know never got their absentee ballots. Mine came the last day (but I was able to early vote since I hadn’t left the city). There’s no notification system to tell voters their ballots were received. This must change. As must the rule that the BOE wait a week before even opening the ballots!
Dan Quart has a bill (A1280) to fix the notification problem. Let’s tell the Assembly to pass it and insist the Senate pass similar legislation and fix the absentee ballot process.
END QUALIFIED IMMUNITY
This is the doctrine that literally allows the police to get away with murder. Violence seems to be their first “go-to”, whether it’s a chokehold, beating people, tear gas, or a gun. They are supposed to “protect and serve”, not rampage and riot.
Victims or relatives trying to sue are often dismissed. Even in criminal suits. State Senator Myrie has a bill to end this travesty. Tell your reps to support that too.
