Actions for Week of December 8

Monday, December 9
IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS
9 AM

The House Judiciary Committee receives presentations of evidence from counsels to the House Intelligence Committee and the House Judiciary Committee in the impeachment investigation of Trump.

Tuesday, December 10
WRITE LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Congress reads them, your neighbors read them. Letters to the editor may not seem flashy or modern, but they get read and they work. If you’ve got friends (or a vacation home) in a place with a rep who doesn’t support impeachment, use this free tool to make your voice heard and change the narrative.

Wednesday, December 11
CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM

The Campaign Finance Commission was a flop! The donation limits are much too high (higher than presidential limits!) and the new rules effectively strangle smaller third parties. There’s still time for the legislature to act to fix this mess, but we'bve only got until Dec. 22.

Call your reps and tell them to do the right thing!

If you need a script, we've got one:

Hello, my name is [NAME] and I am a constituent from [ZIP CODE].

I am calling about the New York State Public Financing Commission's report. I am extremely concerned that these recommendations fall far short of delivering real campaign finance reform. These rules still allow big money in politics.

They will also kill third parties like the Working Families Party that are crucial to our democracy. I urge [SENATOR OR ASSEMBLY MEMBER] to work with the Legislature to pass campaign finance laws before these recommendations take effect on December 22.

NOBODY IS ABOVE THE LAW

A vote on impeachment is expected in the next weeks. When it does, be ready to mobilize and march the night before.  There are already events planned, all we need is a date and time.  NYC’s will be in Times Square. Sign up at the link.

Thursday, December 12
MONTHLY MEETING 2020 ELECTION STRATEGY
7:30 - 9:00 PM
Unitarian Universalist Church of All Souls on 1157 Lexington Ave (at 80th St.)

Celebrate our accomplishments this year and start planning for next year's elections. We'll put together strategies to register voters, write letters, canvas, and do to the White House and Senate what we did to the House — flip them blue!
