Actions for Week of February 16, 2020

Ditch Mitch and His Cronies

Vote on payback ads, text bank to red states, and fight for fair elections

1. Payback Project newspaper ad

The Payback Project (aimed at unseating McConnell, Gardner, McSally, and other vulnerable GOP Senators) raised over $812,000  in about two weeks! Now it’s time to use some of that money. Who do you want to see voted out? Where should the ad go?  Vote at the link!

2. Tell the Senate to pass H.R. 1

Trump wants to destroy democracy, and the Senate is helping him do it.  The House has passed the For the People Act, to try to repair the damage, but Mitch refuses to take it up for a vote.  Use this tool to write letters to the editor urging the Senate to act.

3. Write Postcards to Georgia Voters.

Reach out to voters in this key state, without having to travel.  Postcards are personal, handwritten, and direct.  And, it’s fun too. Reach out to the email addresses below based on which location is convenient for you.

Text banking is like canvassing or phonebanking, with your cell phone.  It routes the messages through an online platform so nobody sees your number. If you need help, attend the training webinar (sign up at the link above). If you're good to go, just text PAYBACK to 977-79 or fill out the form at this link to sign up.

New York, NY 10036

In the past ten years, many states, including Georgia, Wisconsin, and Texas have worked hard to make voting harder, or even take rights away altogether.  Many eligible voters aren’t registered, or don’t vote, which makes it critical to increase both. Learn what civil rights era activists did in the past and what we can do now to fix this.

Indivisible UES February meeting wrap-up

  • We’re heading to Philly on March 29 to canvas.  The group leaders are working on logistics, getting access to voter data, and finding out what the local rules are. The March meeting will include training on how to interact with voters.

  • KY Indivisible wants to put up Ditch Mitch billboards and/or other signs. We are planning a fundraiser to help them get the money they need to do it.

  • Planning a meet the candidates forum later in the spring, with Congresswoman Maloney and others running for her seat.
