CENSUS TOWN HALL
NYPL (Bronx Library Center)
310 East Kingsbridge Road
6 PM-8 PM
NYC is notoriously hard to count in the census, because of the diverse immigration status of people living here, multiple languages, as well as the dense population (more than one person/name/family per building or apartment). That means we lose out on representation and federal funding. Find out more about how the census works, how we can fix this, and who to call about it.

CALL CUOMO ABOUT THE CENSUS
The NY state legislature has approved funds to help get a better census count, but Cuomo hasn’t signed the bill yet. If you’d like to call him and complain (like a true New Yorker), his phone number is 1-518-474-8390 or email him at the link.
MONTHLY MEETING SUMMARY
We had our monthly meeting last Thursday. Here's a quick wrap-up.
2020 VOTING
- Party registration deadline is Feb. 14, NY presidential primary is April 28, state election primary is June 23, general election is Nov. 3
-More efforts to get the word out about early voting next year
-Focus on increasing turnout and local activism in NY and elsewhere, particularly in PA and swing states
MONEY
Jonathan (our treasurer) updated us on our finances. If you'd like to donate, you can do so here. This helps fund the rent for our space, as well as future plans for postcard and letter writing campaigns, and canvassing.
VIRGINIA and KENTUCKY
-We wrote 110 letters to voters in VA last month, and their legislature is now blue for the first time in 25 years.
-Andy Beshear won the governor's race in KY, thanks to hard work from Indivisible KY.
-There will be a primary for the Senatorial race, KY Indivisible does not support Amy McGrath.
CENSUS
NY lost two reps during the last census because of undercounting our population. Let's get better numbers this time. It influences representation, how the districts are drawn, as well as how much federal money we get.
EXTINCTION REBELLION
Gail King from Extinction Rebellion's Upper East Side neighborhood group, discussed the latest climate science on where our planet is heading, and how Extinction Rebellion, a non-violent, worldwide direct action civil disobedience movement, is working to save humanity from extinction.
We also heard briefly from Erica Vladimir, who is running against Carolyn Maloney for Congress.
NEXT MEETING
Our next meeting is December 12. We’re going to start planning election strategy for next year. More details as we have them.
